What is The Moooi Story?

Moooi was originally founded in 2001 by designers Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers. The name itself comes from a Dutch word “mooi,” which defines the concept of beauty itself. However, Wanders and Vissers added an extra “O” to the term to distinguish the brand and word from another and to hint at the extra beauty and uniqueness that their brand would create.

The style of these two visionaries is very anti-conventional as they strive to create exclusive, unique lighting fixtures. Even in the midst of that goal, the designers work to create pieces that convey a playful tone and exude a bold personality. By designing with these goals in mind and focusing on melding antique and contemporary designs, Moooi truly does have something extra to give to the lighting industry.
