SUSTAINABILITY AT THE HEART OF LIGHTING

Earth Day, a day to recognize the boundless beauty of organic material we call home! It's a day for us humans to focus on sustaining our planet Earth and raising awareness for issues that affect our collective health. Progressive lighting companies are conscious of the effects people and products have on the environment and focus on diligent practices to minimize their overall effects. Being green is nothing new to the lighting industry--just note the global change to energy-efficient LED lighting technology and away from power hungry incandescent lighting. LED's have had a massive impact on how much power we consume to light our homes but also on our energy bills. :) Some eco-conscious manufacturers are doing even more. Our stories highlight lighting companies that put ethics above profits and build their own ecosystems and inspiration around the material resources used to manufacture.

Earth Day is Everyday.

Mater Ocean Chair

MATER

Mater cares about using resources responsibly in their designs, the quality, the durability, and the timelessness, and even the conditions of where they are manufactured. This defines responsibility. They also care deeply about the people they work with, how they are motivated, and the sustainable business practices used throughout production.

“When bringing new products to the market our priority is not focused on WHAT we launch but we really try to define WHY we launch it, in an ethical context. Are we supporting a recycled material or supporting a new eco friendly material? Is there a good supporting story with the craftsmen? Those answers define WHY we are on the market”. - Henrik Marstrand, Founder and CEO of Mater
